Sandia National Laboratories Security Manager in Livermore, California


We are seeking a Security Manager for Organization 8522, (Consolidated Special Security Office, CSSO) to lead the California portions of the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) and the Special Access Programs (SAP). With multiple high security areas at the site, this position will be responsible for providing a secure, accredited environment for the many programs executed therein. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the California Safeguards and Security (S&S) management team. This is a dynamic role that is critical to the success of these programs and on any given day you will be expected to:

  • Lead, oversee, and manage members of the workforce within the organization, including hiring, professional development, and performance management consistent with the mission of the organization.
  • Understand the work of the organization and connect the work and expertise of the organization with stakeholders, collaborators, and customers.
  • Promote excellence by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
  • Ensure that customer needs are satisfied through the creation of trust-based relationships that include DOE-IN, NNSA, Sandia Field Office, Other Government Agencies, and our line customers.
  • Ensure that effective communication and management are maintained with Field Intelligence Element management and the Contractor Program Manager for Security in New Mexico.


  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in a Management, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or Security related field with 8 or more years’ experience in physical, cyber, and/or computer security or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience and commitment to excellence in high-formality, highly regulated activities requiring formality of operations subject to audit and inspection.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate to successfully respond to simultaneous and competing requirements.
  • Active Q clearance
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active SCI clearance which may require polygraph testing


  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or Security related relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ security program management experience operating under Intelligence Community Directives or Special Access Program security management under NISPOM, JAFAN, DOD M 5205.07 Manuals or other government agency directives
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and negotiating skills, to include strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate to successfully respond to simultaneous and competing requirements.
  • Experience working or managing in high security environments, computing, information systems, or cyber security capabilities
  • Knowledge of physical security, computer security and accreditation requirements for SCIFs, SAPs, and related facilities.
  • Experience working with/for the intelligence community
  • Previous management experience.
  • Active SCI clearance
  • Active SAP accesses
  • Successful experience with workforce planning and team development.

Department Description:

We provide support to the numerous Strategic Intelligence Partnership Programs (SIPP), Special Access Programs (SAPs) and Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP) inside and outside SNL/CA SCIFs. Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
